History of Sustainability in the Built Environment

To understand the motivation and context for sustainable projects today, it is important to review the history of the sustainability movement and the historical events that infl uenced it. This chapter describes the origins of the sustainability movement, important meetings, summits, and declarations that set sustainability goals, and the issues that have emerged on an international scale as being important for sustainability.
