ABSTRACT
In this Chapter we will look at local environment or site issues. We will learn how to find information about intensity and direction of prevailing wind from weather data, and how to mitigate its effect on a building. We will also learn about a sun path diagram and how to use it to design site geometry. We will then investigate how to control solar gain using orientation and reflective surfaces, and how to analyse overshadowing and a potential for daylighting. These investigations will be based on dynamic simulation experiments and comparisons between different simulation cases.
