ABSTRACT

How much food is enough to feed the world? Given what has been said earlier, this is a bit of a trick question, as there are sufficient calories to feed everyone alive today. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has run the numbers many times, repeatedly estimating that world agriculture produces roughly 2,700 calories a day for every man, woman, and child in the world – well above their 1,900 calories a day threshold signifying, for those eating less than this, a state of malnutrition.
