ABSTRACT
Living so sparsely scattered, Lele were not conscious of any land shortage, and nothing in the way of fixed equipment acted as a magnet to attract groups of people. Disputes about land did not occur. Rights in cleared forest land, in fish ponds and in palm trees were heritable but not sufficiently valuable to have much effect on the pattern of settlement.
