ABSTRACT
A number of technical barriers and challenges are faced by offshore renewable technologies. This chapter covers the main challenges shared by all marine renewable energy technologies, such as technology and design optimization, reliability, installation and decommissioning, operation and maintenance, grid connection, and integration. Finally, we discuss the specific barriers and challenges facing offshore wind, and wave and tidal technologies, respectively.
