ABSTRACT

We learned a great deal about couple friendships from the couples we interviewed for this book. In the previous chapters we describe what couple friendships look like, how they change over time, and how couples navigate the joys and challenges of friendships that may grow over decades, fade, or even end abruptly. Many couples interviewed for this book mentioned that they have never given much thought to their couple friendships but, once asked, were eager to reflect on this aspect of their lives. In our final round of interviews we added the question, “Does the time you spend with other couples impact your own marriage/relationship in any way? If so, explain.” We also invited couples to share suggestions for how other couples might develop or strengthen their couple friendships. Their responses to these two questions are the focus of this final chapter.
