ABSTRACT
There is a long agenda awaiting socialist economists. They cannot even begin to face the real problems unless they openly reject the utopian elements of the Marxist tradition. Marx would surely have revised his own ideas if he had lived a hundred years longer - he would have been a ‘revisionist’. There were many things he could not possibly foresee: nuclear weapons, for instance. Great man though he was, he could also just occasionally be wrong.
