ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter comprises two sections. In the first, I provide a chronological outline of the key developments in Marx's critique of political economy from its origins in 1844 until 1863 when he began work on the particular project designated as Capital. In this section, there is not much substantive detail. The intention is largely to provide some background to the summary restatement of Marx's critique of political economy as it had evolved by 1863. This summary is provided in the second section of the chapter and includes more methodological and critico-theoretical material, especially from the Grundrisse manuscripts, A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy, and the ‘Theories of Surplus Value’ manuscripts.
