ABSTRACT

The very earliest experiences of a child’s life are social. Indeed, he is born with certain reflex behaviours designed to promote social contact with his mother. Smiling, crying, sucking, cling ing, and following with the eyes all lead to attention to the child by the mother. By six or seven months the child can recognize his mother as different from others. So from the earliest period of his life, the child is learning to interact with other people.
