ABSTRACT

when The war ended in 1918 the calico printing industry consisted of some eighty firms. There was, however, a high degree of concentration; twenty-five firms covered 90 per cent of the industry and the three largest had about 70 per cent of the total trade and a rather larger proportion of the export trade. The Calico Printers’ Association had thirty-six wrorks and about 50 per cent of the trade, and F. Steiner Ltd and the United Turkey Red Co. Ltd between them had another 20 per cent.
