ABSTRACT

There are several ways in which early educators may define personal, social and emotional development. The DCSF (2008f) defined PSED in the following six strands. These are: dispositions and attitudes, self-confidence and self-esteem, making relationships, behaviour, self-control, self-care and a sense of community. The recently revised EYFS has changed these to reduce the pressure on practitioners to three areas, self-confidence and self-awareness, managing feelings and behaviour and making relationships. Table 8.1 shows the framework to support the summary of development at 24-36 months.
