ABSTRACT

Israel is a young state that has rapidly changed and developed throughout its 64 years of existence. Zionist ideology that led to the establishment of Israel has played, and still plays, a fundamental role in shaping the political and professional worldviews of Israeli journalists; at the same time, Israeli journalism has been influenced by global values and trends. This holds both for the Israeli media systems, which down the years have become similar to Western capitalist media systems, and for the guiding professional ethos of Israeli journalists, shaped through constant contact with foreign journalism cultures.
