When we got back to the newsroom after the telecast, the phone rang. It was our police informant. “Hey,” he said, “you guys still on the air?” The person who took the call said we weren’t, then paled. The 17-year-old, whom we had named, had not been arrested. He was not a suspect. He was just being questioned as a witness-and only briefly at that.
