ABSTRACT

The roles of African-American mothers in their children’s education is the focus of this chapter. Parents’ participation in their children’s education is essential to the children’s academic, social, and emotional success. Many parents are involved in the schools, usually in ways designed by schools. Parents today are faced with many problems, and coming to the school may not be a high priority. There is a need to understand these parents’ involvement in their children’s schooling, as well as a need to understand how this involvement aids students who may be at risk of school failure.
