This chapter explores:
what we mean by the term ‘adoption’ and what it means for a child to be adopted;
reasons why children in the UK enter the adoption system;
who can adopt;
contact with birth parents;
inter-country adoption;
children dealing with loss and forming new attachments; and
working with adoptive parents and adopted children’s experience in the education system.
