ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, we discussed some kinds of inspiration-Aha! moments-that a person might experience and how these might translate to acting. We also looked at the goal of exceptional acting: to move or inspire an audience. Stanislavsky found, as many others in the field of research into creativity have since verified, that inspiration needs to be wooed, lured out indirectly, and does not respond well to force or demand. Stanislavsky and contemporary scientists have also uncovered many conditions that make inspiration more or less likely. We will make use of some of these scientific ideas, some of Stanislavsky’s ideas, and some of our own discoveries to help you toward the creative state that will best invite insight and inspiration into your acting.
