ABSTRACT

How does the actor begin to move from himself as sole source material in earlier investigations in acting to working on a play and a role with material provided by another artist, the playwright? Where to start? Read the play! It shouldn’t even need to be said, but it does. Yes, read the entire play even though you will only be working on a scene. This may be obvious to most of you, but you would be surprised how many students want to avoid having to read and believe they can achieve something meaningful intuitively without reading the play.
