ABSTRACT

Invoking the presence of the deceased is easily mastered by clinicians and readily accepted by clients who maintain an internalized memory and connection with their loved one’s violent dying. The technique may be included in the treatment protocol of children, adolescents and adults unable to accommodate to prolonged trauma distress associated with intense and frequent reenactment imagery (flashbacks and recurrent nightmares). However, it may be unsuitable in circumstances in which an abusive or oppressive relationship with the deceased is itself a source of distress.
