ABSTRACT

Adults, adolescents and children older than about 5 years who have suppressed and avoided feeling their grieving of a loss, are stuck in interminable, complicated bereavement, or are in the natural process of revising their world of meaning in response to a loss. Overt statements can be used with a very wide range of clients in individual, couple and family therapy, but the therapist has to tailor or titrate it according to the client’s emotional capacity, stability and developmental stage.
