ABSTRACT
Vietnam’s central highlands cover 5.6 million hectares and range mostly between 450 to 900 m above sea level (asl). The total population is 3.1 million people, 30% of which consists of ethnic minorities representing 37 distinct ethnic groups whose livelihood is essentially based on swidden agriculture.
