ABSTRACT

This chapter takes up methods for valuing water-related environmental public goods, where the good in question is nonrival and nonexclusive. Where water yields a public good, and neither diversion for production nor prices for private purchases exist, special data collection and demand evaluation methods must be adopted. These instances are often associated with both use and nonuse (or passive) values for outdoor recreation, aesthetic enjoyment of water in its natural surroundings, water quality improvement, and other environmental benefits.
