ABSTRACT

The structure and presentation of the revised SEEA (UN et al. 2003) are based on the structure of the SNA, rather than on the environmental issues to be addressed using the accounts. The system has a number of components, which often can be constructed independently of each other or integrated selectively to respond to particular information needs or policy problems. These components are as follows:

physical flow accounts, which are quantified in physical rather than monetary units;

accounts that link physical and monetary data, referred to in the SEEA as hybrid accounts;

disaggregation of data from the conventional accounts on environmental protection expenditures;

natural resource asset accounts, in both physical and monetary terms; and

environmentally adjusted macroeconomic indicators.
