ABSTRACT

The relatively long history of community forestry in the Philippines began in the 1970s with government programs. Two decades of evolution in community forestry led to the establishment of an umbrella national program called community-based forest management. This program gained the status of a national strategy in 1996, through Presidential Executive Order No. 263, to ensure the sustainable development of forest lands in the Philippines.
