ABSTRACT

In this chapter we look at global environmental issues. There are two different perspectives we can take on the environment: (1) anthropocentric (or ‘selfish’): we need the Earth’s resources and natural services to survive and indeed flourish; and (2) altruistic (or ‘moral’): many believe that issues such as biodiversity (the number of species on the earth) are moral issues and we have no moral right to cause the extinction of another species.
