ABSTRACT

This book has examined the globalization and sustainability of food provision. With the help of several illustrative cases, it has become clear that securing sustainable food provision under present conditions presents a significant challenge. To help readers better understand the full nature of this challenge, as well as possible solutions, we introduced several conceptual tools that have been developed within the social sciences. Together, these tools help shed light on entrenched practices and views in food provisioning. Throughout this volume, when analysing these developments, global and local dynamics have been combined, as both are essential for understanding and moving forward. Findings from the natural sciences have been included as well, to provide additional depth in addressing the difficult problems that we face today in developing the sustainability of our food supply.
