ABSTRACT

I T SEEMS USEFUL first to summarize what is known about the chronology of the Upper Pleistocene so as to apply, as far as possible, the geological events and prehistoric sites of Central Africa. Current methods of absolute dating applicable to the Quaternary can be

classified according to: Radioactivity. Measurement of the residual radioactive nuclide (C-14 method)

or measurement of the accumulation of a radiogenic derivative in relation to the parent (K/A method; percentage of equilibrium of radium or ionium; Pa291/Th290).
