ABSTRACT

As we have already seen, at the end of the last century Kikuyu customs relating to the land were very highly organ ized, particularly in the Kiambu area, or that part of the Kikuyu country that lay south of the Chania River. We have also seen that it was in this area that the effects of the four major catastrophies were most pronounced, so that, by 1902, the population actually resident on the land was greatly reduced, especially in certain areas.
