ABSTRACT

THE moran are in their late twenties or early thirties before they are allowed to marry, and this is a possible cause of strain among young men, many of whom may not altogether accept their prolonged bachelorhood without some resentment. The system continues because the older men are jealous of the monopoly they hold of political power and marriage, and they enforce the restrictions on the moran, even at the risk of increasing tension between the two age grades.
