ABSTRACT

The production of The Taming of the Shrew in the spring of 1913 was the occasion of the “alliance” of William Poel and Martin Harvey, and the attempt at reconstruction which follows is based on a set of unpublished letters from Poel to Harvey, dating from August 1912 to May 1913, the promptbook, and sketches of the set, which I was fortunate enough to acquire some years ago.
