ABSTRACT
In 2006, the United Nations marked the first year in which more than 50 per cent of humanity is living in cities and towns. Given the short time scale in which urbanization has occurred, it is not an exaggeration to say that this is arguably the most significant human migration in history. More so, it is a migration with profound consequences for both society and economies worldwide.
