ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the modes and patterns that describe the interaction between the production system and institutions, as well as the configuration of different cases related to the sectoral and regional systems of innovation. Particularly, in this chapter, the aim is to analyse how the technological pattern of production system and institutions have changed over time. These changes cannot be understood if we do not consider the evolution of the macroeconomic setting in Mexico during the past few years, as well as the principal changes introduced by the trade reforms and other specific policies that are more closely related to science and technology. This understanding will, in turn, enable us to explore innovation systems at the more meso and micro levels, where this definition will be related to the principal parameters that define the innovation process.
