ABSTRACT
Functional analysis is frequently criticized as being of little use in describing and predicting change. At the same time, many social scientists interested in investigating change hesitate to give up the functional approach. It has been fruitful in many empirical studies and crucial in many of the attempts to construct general theories of behavior.
