Tattooing and Healing SOOT is not uncommon in ritual. Cuts figure widely, especially in puberty ceremonies and at funerals. Tattooing is a combination of the two, and makes its first appearance in the life of a man a t maturity-that is, as a general rule. Its purpose, like those of other rites, was originally a full life.
