ABSTRACT
The Uterine Nephew ANTHROPOLOGISTS are familiar with the curious custom which allows a Fijian sister's son to help himself freely t o his uncle's property. The case is famous because it is supposed to be a manifest survival of a time when a man inherited through his mother, and succeeded to his uncle's property and not to his father's. So satisfactory has this theory appeared that little trouble has been taken to collect further facts that might confirm or disprove it.
