Turning Into Stone COUNTLESS are the legends which end in someone's being turned into stone. Familiar examples are Niobe in Greece, and Lot's wife in Palestine, and such stories are told in many other parts of the world, including Britain. The motive is known as far afield as Fiji, where it is said that a man and woman taken in guilty intercourse were turned into stone.
