ABSTRACT
Certification is the process of independent verification that forest management meets the requirements of a defined standard. Certification assesses the compliance of a particular forest management unit with the standard. When it is combined with an assessment of the chain of custody from the forest to the final product, an eco-label can be used to identify products from well-managed forests.
