ABSTRACT
This concluding chapter focuses on apparent and important inadequacies in contemporary emergency management, and considers some trends that are worrying in terms of future disasters, revisiting Chapter 1 in the process. The potential consequences of increasing disaster risk and inadequate capacities are briefly examined. Trends in policy thinking are also discussed. The final section brings these together, with suggestions of where policy may provide the most help to emergency management in meeting likely challenges.
