ABSTRACT

The microphone or mike is a comic's best friend. As important as it is for people in the audience to be able to see you, it's even more important that they can hear you. That's why, if you're performing in a bar with poor stage lighting, but there's a decent sound system, the show can often go fine. Generally, you should hold the mike two to six inches away from your mouth, but you'll have to hold it much closer for many sound effects (pops, whistles, etc.).
