ABSTRACT
Planted or “green” roofs have a layer of vegetation growing on a specially designed substrate over a flat or sloped roof structure (Fig. 5.1). A planted roof may contribute to the following:
replacing depleted vegetation in urban areas, thus fostering local microclimatic improvements;
reducing conductive heat gains through the roof structure;
more stable indoor temperatures.
