ABSTRACT

In this book, Chapters 2 to 11 propose lessons that may be drawn from their respective case studies. These are lessons that relate to their specific location and political and institutional context. For most, they include examples for the international agencies that were involved. But can general patterns also be drawn in order to enable governments, donors and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to become more effective in their broader aspirations for poverty reduction and environmental management? Can the case studies reveal generic political and governance conditions for moving from the bottom left-hand box in Table 12.1 (poverty and natural resource degradation) to the top right-hand box (reducing poverty and improving natural resource management)?
