ABSTRACT

Today, applications where PV systems are economically competitive in comparison with conventional power conversion systems are generally small applications or at locations remote from the mains grid. However, where attractive tariffs are paid for electricity fed into the grid by grid-connected PV systems, PV systems can become economically viable for individual customers. Good feed-in tariffs were first offered in Germany on a large scale in 2000. These led to a boom in the PV sector. Recently, productive feed-in tariffs, based on the German model, have also been introduced in Spain, France, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy and Greece.
