ABSTRACT

The Muskwa-Kechika Management Area (M-KMA) is a unique management area in northeastern British Columbia, Canada, encompassing more than 64,000km2 of the Northern Rocky Mountains and Great Plains (see Figure 11.1). It is arguably one of the most significant wilderness areas in North America (M-KMA, undated), and possibly the largest unroaded wilderness south of 60°N on the continent. The M-KMA has the potential to remain one of the largest wilderness areas in North America, but there are many challenges in addressing interdisciplinary and integrated planning and management.
