But this does not imply a withdrawing of the
public sector; indeed this generally requires an
increased engagement by government. In many
instances, the public sector will remain the
largest water and sanitation service provider –
although as this chapter describes, there are also
many options for its engagement with, and
partnership with, other service providers.
