ABSTRACT

Our perusal of the literature on human health and forests (Colfer et al, 2006) convinced us of the need for more focused attention to this topic, and this book represents an early contribution to this effort. In the previous study, we focused specifically on forest foods, forest diseases, traditional medicine and health care, and forest cultures. This collection consists of 15 essays on more specific topics central to the study of human health and forests, each written by one or more authors with expertise in that field. One goal for this book has been to look at the central issues in more detail.
