ABSTRACT

Crime and victimization occur in all countries of the world, and the probability of being a victim of crime is substantially higher in urban areas. Approximately 60 per cent of city dwellers in Europe and North America, and 70 per cent in Latin America and Africa, have been victimized by crime over the past five years. Globally, one in five people is likely to be a victim of a serious contact crime such as robbery, sexual crime or assault.
