ABSTRACT
The rationale and purpose underpinning environmental impact assessment (EIA) are simple. One should only choose whether to move forward with a proposal or action based on an understanding of the environmental consequences of its implementation. The simplicity of this concept has lead to EIA being one of the most widely adopted environmental tools by governments and development institutions around the world.
