ABSTRACT

Very large scale photovoltaic power generation (VLSPV) systems can contribute considerably to global energy needs, the environment and socio-economic development, while simultaneously becoming more economically and technologically feasible.1 This chapter examines the economic conditions for VLS-PV systems in the Mediterranean region. Originally focusing on the Sahara Desert-bordering countries of Morocco and Tunisia, Portugal and Spain were also included to compare the impact of recently approved photovoltaic (PV) feed-in tariffs with less supportive frameworks in Northern Africa.
