ABSTRACT
The Participatory Research Group was set up during the ARTPAD project to investigate the use of theatre-based participatory development techniques in the Northeast of Brazil. Over 5 months, participants from civil society organisations met twice a week for 3 hours to participate in workshops led by myself and Karla Galvão. The main objective of the group was to investigate the effectiveness of theatre in development projects, specifically in the work of the research group. In order to do this participants learnt and applied techniques, created new exercises and adapted existing material to meet their specific needs as facilitators.
