ABSTRACT

As discussed throughout this book, the methods for producing different biofuels vary considerably, with some being more environmentally and socially sound than others. As international trade in biofuels increases, mechanisms are needed to assure both domestic consumers and importers that the fuels they use were produced using the most sustainable methods and equitable labour practices possible. One of the most pressing concerns is the potential impacts of feedstock production, including deforestation and competition with food uses.
