ABSTRACT

To calculate realistic time series for the loads on a wind turbine construction as shown in Figure 10.2, for example, it is important to have as input a wind field with correct spatial and temporal variation, as sketched in Figure 13.4. This variation should include turbulence, wind shear and the effect on the wind from the tower. This chapter describes some of the statistical properties of atmospheric turbulence and how to model a 3-D wind field.
